The telephone call is a continuous one; after the payment has been made the conversation can be resumed, unlike a typical 'fire and forget' IVR system where the agent detaches from the call permanently. The agent is not exposed to spoken card digits or DTMF signals and the call can be safely recorded from start to finish because the payment process isn't captured.
